don't let the look of the place fool you, it's the best soul food in town. i have tried the others in the area and there's no question. i had the alaskan cod and oyster combo and filled the right spot. you know the fish and oyster were fresh because they were not smelly and the meat was moist and flavorful. the owner Ray is also a great guy. great to know they also have two branches over in Sacramento.
Got the crab cakes and hush puppies and they didn't disappoint they straight pressure. Met Ray the man himself and he was super welcoming and didn't mind explaining stuff for first timers. Crab cakes were super flavorful with a fresh taste and hush puppies were fresh & just like auntie made em. Recommend this spot to anybody who has taste buds
Ray's Chicken and Fish Market deserves all the praise! The food was absolutely amazing, I got the catfish, peach cobbler, and fried corn, and it was all so good. The catfish was seasoned perfectly, the peach cobbler was sweet and comforting, and the fried corn was packed with flavor. The service was just as great as the food. The guy working there was so nice and friendly, making the experience even better. And the atmosphere? Classic hole-in-the-wall vibes, you can just tell it's going to be good the moment you walk in. This place is a true gem, and I can't wait to come back!
I've yet to try their gumbo, everytime I go it's sold out! I've heard it very delicious. I have been lucky enough to try their fried chicken and calamari both fried to perfection. A crispy outer shell a warm cooked interior. Very big portions too, enough for 2 to share.
Long overdue visit here, happened to come here on a whim. I'm glad we finally visited this place, because they have some of the best fried seafood we've had so far. The owner Ray welcomed us in, and he was super helpful noticing it was our first time here. He gave us a few recommendations of what was popular. We tried the red snapper, catfish nuggets and basa. I didn't care for the red snapper personally but my aunt and brother loved them. I think the catfish and basa were the best personally. Sauces are great too, their super flavorful tartar sauces paired well with the seafood. Fries were great too. Blueberry lemonade hit the spot in the heat. Looking to try the actual catfish fillets since the nuggets were spectacular. The oysters and chicken seemed interesting so I may try those next time. Overall they deserve a 4.5/5 stars for me. It might be five if everything else they have is good too.
This place is the TRUTH!! From level of service to the taste of the food, Ray (the owner) delivers on all fronts. My group ordered the red snapper, catfish nuggets, jumbo shrimp, 3/3/3 fried chicken, and some lemonade. Everything was perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. The jumbo shrimp was the favorite of the night -- highly recommended! Both fish were flaky and moist. Potato and macaroni salads that came on the side were delicious as well. This was my first time there and will not be my last!
